The Algarve boasts over 100 beaches, with 88 proudly flying the Blue Flag—an environmental quality mark by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). Spanning more than 200 km, this coastline invites visitors to explore its coves, cliffs, caves, and seemingly endless stretches of sandy shores framed by rocky landscapes. 

Algarve's beaches offer diverse experiences: some are ideal for sunbathing and family activities, while others cater to surfers. Blue Flag beaches ensure safety and cleanliness. The east coast features family-friendly beaches like Barril and Tavira with lifeguards. Central coast beaches, including Rocha Baixinha and Vale do Lobo, are popular with visitors. The west coast has picturesque surfing beaches, with Martinhal Beach being notably family-friendly.

Several Algarve beaches, including Praia da Falésia and Praia Dona Ana, have been recognized by TripAdvisor as among the world's finest. In 2015, these beaches were ranked 20th and 21st on TripAdvisor’s Top 25 Best European Beaches list, with Praia Dona Ana also being named Portugal's No.1 beach. The Algarve's crystal-clear waters offer various activities such as kitesurfing, surfing, scuba diving, jet skiing, snorkeling, bodyboarding, windsurfing, and paragliding.

Praia da Rocha and Ilha de Tavira offer water sports like jet skiing and windsurfing. Ria de Alvor is ideal for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The Vicentina Coast provides surfing opportunities for all skill levels, with gentle waves in summer for beginners and challenging conditions in winter for experienced surfers and competitions.

Olhão stands as the Algarve's largest fishing port, featuring a lively waterfront and charming old-town lanes. It is encircled by ‘ilhas,’ sand spit island beaches that shield the marshy lagoon. Ilha da Culatra is a coastal village adorned with oleanders along sandy paths and bougainvilleas scaling verandas. The picturesque sandy bay beach enjoys year-round ferry connections from Olhão’s pier.
